Solana (SOL), XRP, and Ethereum (ETH) continued to decline in value today. These losses follow a broader downward trend in the cryptocurrency market. Attention is now turning to Bitcoin’s key support level at $91,000, which is being tested again.

The drop in prices could affect investor confidence and lead to more selling. As Bitcoin holds the largest share of the crypto market, its movements strongly influence other tokens.

Bitcoin Struggles to Hold Support

Bitcoin fell below $92,000 early today and is nearing a key support line at $91,000. If this level breaks, analysts warn there could be more downward pressure across the entire market.

This decline puts added stress on major altcoins:

  • Solana (SOL): Down over 6% in the last 24 hours
  • Ethereum (ETH): Fell below $3,100 for the first time in weeks
  • XRP: Also posted a 3.5% decline overnight

Why This Matters

The latest price drops come at a time of increased global uncertainty. U.S. economic data released this week showed slower job growth and underlying inflation that remains high. These factors may lead to higher interest rates for longer, which can hurt risk assets like cryptocurrencies.

At the same time, tensions in the Middle East and rising fuel prices are impacting global financial markets. Cryptocurrencies, seen by some as alternative assets, are not immune.

Background on Market Volatility

Cryptocurrencies have seen large swings throughout 2024. Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of over $100,000 in March but has since fallen back. Altcoins such as Ethereum and Solana followed the same pattern—surging earlier in the year before turning downward in recent weeks.

According to CoinGecko, total crypto market capitalization has dropped more than 12% in the last 14 days.

Recent Developments

  • Earlier this week, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) delayed decisions on multiple crypto ETF proposals.
  • On Monday, the Federal Reserve chair signaled that inflation remains a concern, making interest rate cuts less likely in the short term.
  • In Europe, new rules under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation began to come into force, tightening controls on digital asset providers.

Traders now wait to see if Bitcoin can hold $91,000. If not, another sell-off may begin, potentially pushing prices even lower across the board.

What Happens Next

Market analysts suggest watching for volume changes and institutional movements. With macroeconomic conditions still uncertain, recovery may take time. Until then, the focus remains on Bitcoin’s ability to maintain support and the reaction of regulators globally.
